There are many questions in the world about orthodontics, but right now, as you transform your smile, the most important questions are the ones that affect your personal life, right? So, we are happy to tell you the answers to the following questions to make your orthodontic experience more enjoyable, convenient, and easy:

How long does the orthodontic treatment take?
Each person is different when it comes to transforming their smile. Treatment can last 9 months to 5 years, but it is more common to have treatment that lasts about 18-24 months. The best way to know how long your treatment will last is to talk to your orthodontist during your next appointment.

Can I look cool with braces?
Yes, you can most definitely look cool with braces. Many people see brackets and wires as the jewels of the smile! You can also decorate your appliance with colorful rubber bands, which is the best part of the treatment.

Do braces hurt?
Braces don’t necessarily cause pain, but they do cause some soreness. As you tighten your braces, pressure is applied to your teeth, which causes some soreness. Although the soreness is inconvenient, it is a sign that your smile is transforming into the straight and beautiful smile you want. The brackets may also irritate your lips and cheeks at times, but you can solve this problem by covering your appliance with orthodontic wax.

Can I still play sports while I have braces?
Yes, you can play sports while you have braces. The appliance won’t slow you down in any way. However, we do recommend protecting your teeth, lips, tongue, cheeks, and appliance by wearing a mouth guard. The guard will prevent oral injuries and broken brackets.

What can I eat during treatment?
We strongly recommend avoiding hard, sticky, and chewy foods that can break your appliance, like caramel, chewy peanut butter, nuts, popcorn, gum, and taffy. We also recommend cutting the following foods into small pieces before you eat them: bagels, corn on the cob, apples, hamburgers, carrots, and anything that may be difficult to eat.
